With Representative Jason Murphey set to term out in 2018, a candidate has announced he will run for Oklahoma House of Representatives District 31.
In a June 14 Facebook video post, Rod Baker says he’s excited about the challenge.
“This endeavor I’m fixing to take off on is one of great hope,” Baker said in the video. “I am completely enthusiastic about it due to the fact that one of our biggest principles is to be of service. I can be of maximum service, I believe, for the greater good of Oklahoma.”
District 31 primarily serves central and southern Logan County and a portion of northwest Oklahoma County.
According to his campaign website, Baker, who resides south of Waterloo Road in Oklahoma County, is married with one son and three grandkids.
Baker is the owner of RodCo Hydraulics and William Baker LLC.
In his video formal announcement, the candidate says he will follow the lead of Murphey.
“I’m going to sign the pledge that my predecessor has signed. That’s the pledge I will not take money from lobbyists and I will not take gifts from lobbyists. Jason Murphey has set a high standard for us lawmakers who are going to fill his shoes,” Baker said.
Murphey was elected in 2007 and a constitutional amendment, approved by voters, implements a 12-year term limit, restricting legislators to a total of 12 years in the Oklahoma Legislature.
