Frank W. Davis, an attorney and a former representative for the Oklahoma House of Representatives, passed away on Sunday evening. He was 82 years old.
Guthrie EMS was dispatched near Davis’ home shortly before 8 p.m. He was transported to Mercy Hospital Logan County where he was pronounced dead of an apparent heart attack.
“Our state has lost a great statesman, an honest, selfless and hard-working politician,” Rob Hudson wrote on a sign taped on the front door of Davis’ law office.
“Our community has lost a leader, a public servant and a rock.”
Hudson, an attorney and judge, said he “lost a friend who was like a father, my mentor, advisor and counselor.”
Davis, a University of Oklahoma College of Law graduate in 1959, continued practicing law even after celebrating his 82nd birthday just last month.
After graduation he served as a postmaster In Ada (Okla.), practiced law in Medford, served as the Logan County Attorney (1961-65), served as a judge for the Guthrie Municipal Court (1974-78) and went into private practice as an attorney.
Davis later served as an Oklahoma representative for 26 years (1978-2004).
In a 2008 interview, Davis said the one thing he missed the most about being out of politics was not getting to meet people.
“I miss the campaign. I miss getting out, knocking on doors and talking with people,” Davis said.
The Guthrie icon proudly served as a Gideon, in the Guthrie Lions Club for nearly 60 years, boy scouts and the Guthrie Masonic Consistory to name only a few.
Davis leaves behind a wife and two children.
Funeral services are pending at this time.
Frank was a good man and excellent attorney. We sometimes had different opinions on a point of law, but he never took the disagreement personally. The community benefited greatly from his work and care for everyone. He will be missed.
