Bookmark and Share The Logan County District Attorney’s Office has charged eight men accused of running gambling machines at local area gas stations. Guthrie News Page was there last August 27 as the Logan County Sheriff’s Office confiscated 21 machines from five Guthrie convenience stores that were involved in an illegal gambling operation. Photo Gallery Captain Richard Stephens says the illegal operation may have generated $45,000 each week while the machines were in operation. Court records show the illegal activity is alleged to have happen between Feb. 7, 2012 thru August 27, 2012. The department said they had been investigating the gambling operation for six months before they closed down the convenience stores and removed the machines. Those charged include: Bob Menn, Nasir Jamil Siddiqui, Geoffrey W. Staumbaugh, James Bryon Smith, Huy Tien Ngo, Mark Bryan Dawkins, Manjit Singh Hayer and Ali Asghar Khan. Each man has been charged with commercial gambling and could face a maximum 10 years in the state penitentiary and a max fine of $250,000. Former Chief Deputy Rob Groseclose said customers would go inside and gamble, get a ticket or coupon and go to the cash register to receive their cash out. The convenience store would generally pay out with store funds. “Believe me it is gambling. They were making money every week.” Groseclose said outside one of the convenience stores targeted last year. “There were different ways they (stores) were paying out, either from the cash box, register or from the safe.” He went on to say that the stores and owners of the machines generally split the profits.
