When students at Guthrie’s Central Elementary report to school, they will be greeted with their school supplies at no cost to the student or the school district.
Several businesses contributed to the purchase of the supplies which will be in backpacks waiting for the students to pick up on Meet the Teacher Night on August 15from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the school.
Included in the backpacks will be a “Guthrie Pride” t-shirt for the students to proudly wear on their first day of school. Guthrie students begin the 2013-14 school year on Tuesday, August 20.
This fundraising drive was spearheaded by Amy Carothers, owner of Daniels Drug in Guthrie. Other local merchants contributing were, AC’s Hallmark, Michael Chandler, DDS, The American Legion, Calvin Mays Oil Co., Dr. Dawn Chiropractic, Dean’s Cleaners, Dewart-Gumerson Insurance, Guthrie Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 105, Guthrie Tag Agency and Interbank.
“I would like to thank the merchants for their support of our students,” said Dr. Mike Simpson, Superintendent of Guthrie Public Schools. “This is a great example of community generosity that helps our staff and students achieve our goals. “
She felt that individual newspapers should have
their own viewpoint, as directed by the editor or influenced by the individual writers, and that pure objectivity was a goal so unattainable as to be undesirable.
Various software development companies have come up with great
