Community takes in Guthrie Summer Streets; hopeful to be an annual event

The streets were packed with over 1,300 people on Sunday evening for the first Guthrie Summer Streets event. An event that is directed toward the youth and fitness. Although, many adults were seen getting into the action.

Guthrie Summer Streets is a local health and wellness project put on by the Logan County Health Department TSET Healthy Living Program and #ChooseGuthrie.

Approximately 50 organizations showed up with activities in hand to create an overall fun atmosphere surrounding by the historic downtown buildings. The concept of Guthrie Summer Streets is to shut down the streets and get people up and moving.

Dancing, bicycle races, obstacle courses, face painting, signing your name on a truck and many more activities were on display. View photo gallery.

Wellness Coordinator Courtney McLemore said the average time people spent at the event was 52 minutes.

“We couldn’t ask for a better first time event. It was well accepted by the community, by the organizations and by other volunteers. Hopefully we can make this an annual event,” McLemore said.

McLemore said a big thank goes to out to the organizations that helped with this event, including Guthrie Chamber of Commerce, Guthrie City Hall, NORTHChurch Guthrie, Shelton’s Photography and Design and Unifying Solutions.
