It was a highly anticipated junior high football game matching two undefeated teams in one of the best stadiums in the nation, but the game turned out to be one-sided.

The Guthrie seventh grade team was a perfect 9-0 after a 22-0 shut-out win over Chickasha on Tuesday evening in front of a well attended crowd inside Jelsma Stadium.
After a quickly played first quarter, Guthrie scored on the first play in the second quarter when JJ Harris blew past the Chickasha defense for a 24-yard touchdown run. The Jays needed just four plays to go 53 yards.
Blake Curtin followed the score with a run of his own on the 2-point try to give the home team a 8-0 advantage.
Harris again found the end zone as he has many times this season. This time from 8-yards out and the 2-point try was successful when quarterback Jackson Waddell scored to give the Jays a 16-0 advantage after the three play drive that covered 44 yards.

The game’s final score came early in the third quarter when the Jays attempted their one and only pass on the night.
Waddell spotted a tall Seth Hurd, who then shrugged off would be tacklers, for the 44-yard pass and catch.
The Chickasha offense had a hard time moving the ball throughout the evening as the Guthrie defense held the run-happy offense. In fact, the Chicks threw one pass on the night and was completed on a half-back pass.
The Guthrie defense put a statement on the game after a turnover gave Chickasha the ball inside Guthrie’s 10-yard line. On a fourth down and goal play near the goal line, Caleb Nelson found a hole in the offense to stuff the run and to preserve the shut-out.
