Construction progress continues at Charter Oak Elementary

Construction workers continue work on Guthrie Public School’s new elementary school in southern Logan County. A construction update was given at last week’s Property Committee meeting.

Charter Oak Elementary, which is being built to the east of the intersection of Douglas Blvd. and Charter Oak Road, currently displays two structures. A concrete structure, which will be the school’s gymnasium and storm shelter, and the main building.

The gym’s roof was recently poured and installed. Meanwhile, the main building, which will hold majority of the classrooms, saw the red iron built and placed, roof and insulation installed and the west block wall being setup. Also going up is the electrical for lighting.

The center section of the school had the concrete poured. This area will serve as the office and other classrooms.

The next steps of the construction includes a retaining wall for the north parking lot and the water tank.

School officials said they are continuing to work the Department of Environmental Quality on the school’s lagoon.

The Board of Education learned in October that construction was behind schedule and leaving the opening of the building unknown. Related articleNew elementary school behind construction schedule
