Council approves to rezone properties; business hopeful to construct building

The Guthrie city council took the Guthrie Planning Commission’s recommendation of rezoning property to eventually tear down a business building and home along S. Division St.

The council agreed to rezone the 500 block of S. Division (southwest corner of Perkins and Division) to a commercial zone from a residential zone. The properties were a mix of R-1 and C-2. Now, it will strictly be a C-2 (general commercial).

With the new zoning, it’s expected the building located at 501 S. Division, which was last established as a Carl Jr’s restaurant, and the house to the immediate south will be torn down for new construction.

Developers are looking to construct a 15,000 square foot Goodwill thrift store, which is funded by a massive network of retail thrift stores which operate as nonprofits.

Goodwill is working on preliminary construction plans for final approval by the planning commission and ultimately the city council. The commission is expected to hear the plans next month.
