While the Guthrie varsity basketball squads were busy with their own tournaments this week so was to the 8th grade boys squad in the Harrah Tournament.
The Junior Jays defeated the host team, Harrah, to claim the tournament championship by a final score of 42-41. Earlier this year, the 7th grade girls and 7th grade boys teams won the Perkins Tournament.
The Jays are coached by Jason Rice and Matt Peering.
Guthrie got to the finals with convincing wins over 6A opponents with Ponca City on Thursday (35-22) and Moore West (46-31) on Friday.
In the championship game, the Jays were led by Elliott Curry’s game high 20 points followed by: Hill eight, Ajanaku five, Niles Brackett three, Beau Davis two, Jordan Gross 2, Richardson one, and Tanner Elmore one.
The 8th grade team along with the 7th grader’s will return back to the GJHS gymnasium Monday night when they host Western Heights. The first game is scheduled for a 5:30 tip.
