Dean sisters have a day to remember in two wins

The Guthrie softball program opened up the 2015 season with two convincing district wins over the Capitol Hill Red Wolves. In the middle of it all was the Dean sisters.

Guthrie (2-0, 2-0) erupted for 11 runs in the first inning of game one and 10 runs in the second inning of game two to put any doubts away. The Jays took game one 15-0 and 21-0 in game two.

The Dean sisters kept the Red Wolves to only one hit in 10 innings of work from the circle, including a no-hitter.

In game one, sophomore Hannah Dean threw the shut-out while collecting 14 strikeouts and only one base hit.

In the second game, Dean’s younger sister, freshmen Karrah Dean made her varsity debut in the circle. She took advantage and tossed a no-hitter to go along with nine strikeouts. She was one base on ball away from a perfect game.

The Dean show was not over.

Karrah, in her first high school at bat, delivered a pitch over the left field wall and into the pasture. Not to be out-done, the elder Dean parked one over the fence in game two.

Senior Trista LeGrande collected four hits and scored five times while fellow senior Madison Dutton added four hits and four RBI’s in the twin bill.

The schedule will pick up on Thursday when Guthrie travels to Blackwell. Last year, the Maroons took down the Jays down 4-3 in Guthrie.
