The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a scam occurring in the county.
Chief Deputy Richard Stephens says citizens are receiving telephone calls from an imposter claiming to be Deputy Fred Burns badge number 896 with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. The imposter states that the calling party has missed a Jury Duty Subpoena and has an arrest warrant. The imposter demands that the victim’s pay for the warrant over the telephone.
The Sheriff’s Office says they do not employ any deputies that make collection calls for any reason and that the department does not employ a Deputy Burns. In addition, the Logan County Court Clerk does not issue arrest warrants for those who miss jury duty.
“Everything about this type of incident is a scam,” Stephens said.
