District 1: New asphalt resurface project set for Aug. 3

District 1 County Commissioner Marven Goodman

Last week I wrote about our district road and bridge site survey with the Federal Disaster folks.  Well our county Emergency Management Director, David Ball, would like to make sure that all residents in Logan County, which had storm damage from May to July 2015, to know there might be help from FEMA for Individual Assistance (IA).  The number to call to register is 1-800-621-3362. When calling you will need to provide; A phone number where you can be reached at, Social Security Number, Current mailing address, Address of the affected property, Brief description of the damages, & Insurance information including policy number. You will have until Aug 26th to register but the sooner you call the better it will be. Thanks to David for helping to spread the word about this.

This week we continued rebuilding and repairing our county roads. Our grade and rock crews worked overtime last Saturday to fix several very bad areas as we continue working through hundreds of currently open work orders. Davis road, May Ave, Forest Hills, Charter Oak, Coltrane, Industrial, Camp Road, Prairie Grove, Forest Hills, May, Penn, Western, and Seward Road to the West of Broadway are still in very bad shape.  We are working to restore these areas that like many others, suffered significant erosion and culvert washouts from the last flood, and weather permitting our crews will be working overtime this weekend as well.

Removal of the washed out culvert began this Tuesday on Waterloo road between Western and Santa Fe.  This is a joint project between Oklahoma County District 3 and Logan County District 1.  In an effort to quickly finish the last administrative task, the Logan County Board of Commissioners scheduled a special meeting this last Monday morning and approved the agreement — repair began Tuesday, July 28. Oklahoma County ordered the culvert and awaits delivery, hopefully by mid next week.  This portion of road will remain closed until repairs are completed.  We will keep you updated on the progress.

The new asphalt resurface project for county road EW-87/Charter Oak from Kelley Ave East to Broadway is scheduled to begin next Monday, August 3rd 2015 and complete within 2 weeks.  This will resurface another new mile of paved roadway. Please watch out for the contractors, they will start at the rail road tracks and work outward on a single lane at a time until completed. The contractor expects to complete the job within two weeks after start.

Until next week, be safe out there on our county roads and bridges.
