Dutton named Lineman of the Year; 8 Jays on 5A-2 all-district team

The Guthrie Bluejays were well recognized on the 2016 District 5A-2 All District Football team, including Lineman of the Year and four on the defensive team.

The Jays finished 6-5 overall and fourth in the district to clinch their 12th straight playoff appearance.

The district, once again, proved to be the best in Class 5A with Carl Albert defeating McGuinness in the title game.

All-district teams were selected by the head coaches of Guthrie, Carl Albert, McGuinness, Piedmont, Lawton Ike, Woodward, Northwest Classen and Guymon.

Headlining the district for the Jays was Justin Dutton, who was named the Lineman of the Year. The Jays left tackle has verbally committed to play college football at Arkansas State.

The Bluejays landed four players on the first team defense, including lineman Christian Blassingame and Brayden Stone, linebacker Cal Davis and defensive back Zac Payne.

Senior running back Ty Doolin was recognized on the second team offense. Help leading the way for the running game was Seth Dean and Dalton Freshoure. Both were also named to the second team of offense.

Earning honorable mention was Hunter Raney at the fullback position.

McGuinness two-way player Rubell Goe was named the district’s Overall District Player of the Year. Carl Albert state champion quarterback Johnny Bizzell IV was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

Piedmont’s Christian Bricker was named Defensive Player of the Year, Special Teams Player of the Year was awarded to Woodward’s Jesus Fraire and the Ironman of the Year was awarded to McGuinness’ Clay Morris and Carl Albert’s RT Sherman.
