Elijah Robles looking to double up goal for the MDA Muscle Walk

Bookmark and Share

With no surprise, Team Elijah has already reached their goal, but that is not stopping 8-year-old Elijah Robles and his family from moving forward to help with this year’s OKC MDA Muscle Walk.

Elijah RoblesElijah was just three-years-old when his family learned he had Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) – a genetic condition which affects the nerves that control muscle movement. SMA is a recessive progressive disease and was passed only because both parents carry the gene.

Elijah’s comprised team is called the Elijah’s Tornado Chasers. View Elijah’s MDA link by clicking here.

Helping lead the way is Elijah’s mom Heathery Yost, who has been known to be a Grinch in the past. Well, a happy Grinch.

Yost attended several events in the Guthrie, Oklahoma City and Norman taking pictures and accepting donations in a Grinch outfit. Members of the Territorial Riders have left their impression as well by submitting themselves to the ice bucket challenge for Elijah’s Tornado Chasers.

Together $851 in donations have added up after an original goal of $500, but Elijah says he wants to raise another $149 to double up the original goal. The funds raised will help improve the lives of people fighting the muscle disease by maintaining independence and live the best possible lives.

The Muscle Walk is scheduled for April 4 at the Cox Convention Center beginning at 11 a.m.

Elijah, a first grade student at St. Mary’s School, is the son of Heather Yost and Juan Robles, both of Guthrie, and the grandson of Rick Yost of Mulhall, Eduardo Robles, of Guthrie, and Bennie and Christy Barker, both of Guthrie.
