Guthrie Public Schools confirmed late Monday evening that Guthrie head boys basketball coach Tim Flanigan will not return next season as the Bluejays coach.

Tim Flanigan was named the boys head coach at Guthrie High School.

Guthrie News Page reported the report on Monday afternoon.

In a press release, the school district says Flanigan submitted his resignation on Monday after serving as the head coach for three years and the previous five years as an assistant coach at Guthrie.

This past season Guthrie finished 8-16 and in the past three seasons compiled a 28-49 record.

“Earlier today I accepted the resignation of Tim Flanigan as head boy’s basketball coach,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said in the release.

“I want to thank Mr. Flanigan for his service to our athletic department. We will begin an immediate search for a new coach while involving many resources available to us. We want the best possible person for our student-athletes,” Simpson concluded with.

The basketball decision does not affect Flanigan’s teaching position at Guthrie High School and the resignation is expected to be accepted by the Guthrie Board of Education on Monday evening at their next regular monthly meeting.
