A rare form of the flu has hit Guthrie, and residents are beginning to wonder who will become its next victim. There’s a twist on this illness, though, individuals are able to purchase an “infection” and send it to a friend or business in the community.

Mitch and Charity McPeek were recent victims. Will you be next?

The symptoms: A dozen or so pink flamingos in the yard of whomever is infected.

For $20 you can infect someone. The flamingos will be delivered to the requested address, and will stay in that yard for two days. Vaccines cost $25. If someone purchases a vaccine, their yard cannot become infected.Infections and vaccines can be purchased at Daniels Drug, 206 West Oklahoma or First Christian Church, 402 East Noble.

The Flamingo Flu is a fundraiser by the First Christian Church in Guthrie, and proceeds will benefit their summer mission to St. Mary’s Parish, Jamaica.
