Guthrie Mayor Chuck Burtcher, center, stands along with some of his fellow classic car friends in Guthrie. They will be participating in the Geezers and Gassers Car Show and Poker Walk in downtown Guthrie on Friday, April 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The event hosted by the Guthrie Rotary Club will be held Friday, April 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. on the west end of Oklahoma Avenue in downtown Guthrie and will feature about 200 classic car entrants from across Oklahoma.

Guthrie Mayor Chuck Burtcher is a classic car enthusiast and will have several cars represented at the event. He said planning for this has been a fun experience.

“I think we will have at least 200 cars here,” Burtcher said. “I believe I can get 100 alone from Logan County. We have people bringing their cars in from as far away as Kansas, Pryor and Chickasha. I think this thing is going gangbusters.” People are even looking at using one of the many classic car shipping companies, so they can come to enjoy the show and display their vehicle even if they reside in different States!

Dan Newton of the Guthrie Rotary Club said Burtcher has been the driving force behind the car show.

“The mayor has taken such an interest in this and has done such a good job with it,” Newton said. “He needs to get the accolades for this.”

Newton said each participant will pay a $15 entry fee and the first 200 entrants will receive a free t-shirt. Entrants can also purchase 50-50 tickets where the winner of a drawing will receive half the winnings and the other half will go to the Guthrie Rotary Club.

Newton said the Poker Walk is open to anyone and participants can purchase a $10 ticket with the opportunity to visit five selected Guthrie businesses and win a cash prize that will be split with the Guthrie Rotary Club.

During each visit participants will receive a playing card and at the end of the walk the participant with the best poker hand wins. For those that fancy their odds at poker and are wanting to increase their odds of winning something, you might want to place some bets while on your walk… This can be possible by using online mobile casinos by utilizing websites such as Casino-Korea.com or any others available to you, in order to play a whole variety of casino games! You might even find you win some money back while on the walk, even if you don’t win the prize for the best poker hand at the end of the walk!

Newtown added there will also be a professional disc jockey playing music, door prizes will be awarded and participants will receive a free mounted professional picture of their car.

Burtcher said he believes the car show and poker walk will help attract more visitors to Guthrie for the 89er Days celebration.

“I think it’s going to be a great event for Guthrie,” Burtcher said. “It’s going to put people in our stores.”

The ‘89er Celebration activities this year includes the Chuck Wagon dinner served from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 at the Logan County Fairgrounds. The event includes a dinner, auction and an Irish dance performance from Betty Thompson who served as Miss Oklahoma 2011 and was first runner-up in the Miss America pageant. Other events include a carnival from April 17-21; youth all-star baseball game between Guthrie and Edmond on Thursday, April 18; free Guthrie High School Jazz Band concert at the Guthrie Post office on Thursday, April 18; a classic car show on Friday, April 19; a rodeo at the Logan County Fairgrounds Friday April 19 and Saturday April 20 at the Logan County Fairgrounds; and the 89er Day Parade will be held Saturday April 20 at noon with former Devon Energy CEO Larry Nichols and his wife Polly serving as parade grand marshals.
