GHS baseball riding four game win streak; two games in Woodward

The Guthrie High School baseball team will be riding a four game winning streak into Woodward on Tuesday when the Jays get set for two crucial games in northwest Oklahoma.

Guthrie stands 18-6 overall and 9-1 in district play, which is good for second place behind defending 5A state champion Shawnee. Guthrie will have their chance at the Wolves next Monday and Tuesday.

First, the Jays will play two games in Woodward after Monday’s game was postponed due to heavy rains in the Guthrie area. The Jays control their own destiny when it comes to hosting a regional, but a slip up in Woodward and all of a sudden the Jays could be dependent on help from other 5A-1 teams.

The Jays have been good in district play so far with the lone exception to a 10-inning loss to Piedmont. Luckily, Guthrie has the tiebreaker over the Wildcats as well as every other team in the district that they have played if they were to finish with identical district records.

Shawnee is 8-0, but will finish the season with three key series to end the year with Piedmont, the Jays and Noble. Another key series will be Noble and Piedmont next week.

Bluejay fans would not mind if the Wolves swept both Piedmont and Noble to make things a touch easier for the Jays. Meanwhile, Piedmont and Noble are looking for a couple of Bluejay slip ups and sneak into the top of the standings.

The top two teams in the district would host regionals.
