GHS boys, girls head basketball coaches resign their post

Guthrie High School will be searching for both a boys and girls head basketball coach for next season. The positions became available after both resignations were approved by the Board of Education.

Russ Gilmore, who just completed his third season as the boy’s head coach, and first year girl’s coach Cory Sauser turned in their resignation letters on Monday. The school board unanimously accepted the resignations at the board meeting later that evening.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the fine young men we had in our program,” Gilmore said.

“Night in and night out they played very hard for me. For that I am very proud.”

Gilmore (pictured left) complied a 21-50 record, including nine wins combined in the past two seasons, as the Jays head man.

Guthrie was 0-3 in playoff games under Gilmore.

Sauser and the Lady Jays finished the season with a 13-13 record, including the program’s first playoff win since 2014.

“I am grateful for the opportunity I was granted in pursuing my personal and professional goals,” Sauser said.

Both will remain with the school district as teachers until the end of the current school year.
