GHS radio team gearing up for 2017-18 season

The Guthrie High School athletic season is days away from getting started and the radio team is set to follow the Jays across the state. If there ever was a year to have a radio team, the 2017 football season would be the year.

The radio team of Chris Evans, Casey Porter, Phil Nichols and Craig Fleck are now preparing for their 16th straight season covering GHS athletics on the air waves.

“It seems like yesterday it was 2002,” Evans said.

Earlier this year, the radio team was awarded the top Play-by-Play outstanding achievement award by the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters (OAB) for the second time in four years. Related articleGuthrie radio team wins second OAB award for top play-by-play

The GHS football season for the second year in a row will be on Hot 93.7 FM with the pre-game show beginning at 6 p.m. The games can also be heard world-wide on Guthrie News Page, the Guthrie News Page mobile app and Guthrie Sports Page.

Road games for the Jays, include Enid, McGuinness, Lawton Eisenhower, Woodward and Guymon.

“We’ve been to those places several times before, but trips to Lawton, Woodward and Guymon in a span of four weeks will be interesting,” Evans said.

For the second year, the trio will host the High School Huddle on Wednesday night’s on 93.7 FM and social media from 6 – 7 p.m. The high school talk show will cover all the top games, news and hot topics across the state.

“The station and us got a great response last year and look forward to another exciting season,” Evans said. “We will be able to add parts of our show with the Oklahoma State football pregame show (Game Day Live at Eskimo Joe’s) and share what happened on Friday nights as fans get ready for college football,” Evans said.

The Jays kick off the season on Aug. 25 in Enid. If you’re unable to attend you know where the second best seat will be.
