GHS soccer teams off to a good start; home opener on Friday

The Guthrie High School soccer season is underway and the home opener is set for Friday evening.

The boys’ team is off to a 2-0 start while the Lady Jays stand at 1-1.

The teams opened their season at Carl Albert with a split decision. The Jays pulled off a 3-0 win while the Lady Jays fell 0-4.

On Tuesday, the teams traveled to Mount St. Mary’s and delivered a district sweep.

In a thrilling overtime game, the Lady Jays picked up their first win, 4-3. The Bluejays had a bit of an easier time against the private school with a 6-2 win.

The Lady Jays participated in the pre-season Piedmont Festival and went a perfect 3-0 with wins over Bethany, Mount St. Mary’s and Santa Fe South.

Guthrie will host Ponca City on Friday evening at the Guthrie High School practice field. The first game is set for 5:30 p.m.
