The Guthrie High School softball program continues its winning ways after a slip-up in late August.

The Lady Jays enter Thursday’s game with El Reno with a three-game winning streak following a 22-0 win at Lawton Eisenhower on Tuesday. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to weather. A rescheduled date has not been announced at this time.

Overall, Guthrie is 12-4 and 7-1 in District 5A-1.

To break down the schedule even further this far into the ’23 season, Guthrie is 9-1 against 5A competition, 3-2 against 6A opponents, and 0-1 against 3A with a, 10-2, loss to Lone Grove.

In the victory over Ike, the long ball proved to be enough for the win as juniors Ava Hebensperger and Haley Gallo each blasted two home runs while collecting eight runs batted in each.

In the two wins over Altus (10-0 and 14-2), the Jays combined for 28 hits, including five from freshman shortstop Ryn McCormick. Kinley Duehning and Katelynn Siess added three hits apiece.

Senior Abbie Eichler stood out with three singles, three doubles, and three RBIs to help secure the district win.

The Jays will be back in district play when they travel to Duncan on Sept. 12.

One key date left on the regular season schedule is Sept. 18 when the Jays travel to Elgin. The Owls came to Guthrie on Aug. 24 and took a 9-7 district win from the Lady Jays.

Guthrie and Elgin appear to be the top two teams in the district. If both continue their winning ways, they will host 5A regionals.
