Girls tennis team qualifies for State after runner-up finish at regionals

The Guthrie High School girls’ tennis team is headed to the state tournament after a strong showing at the Class 5A regional meet held at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

The Lady Jays, led by head coach Mary Hudson, finished as regional runner-up, behind powerhouse Holland Hall, with Bishop McGuinness finishing third.

Several Bluejay players had standout performances that helped secure the team’s state qualification.

Aspen Mitchell and Haven Hudson took second place in No. 1 Doubles, falling to Holland Hall in the finals.

Lola Brown also earned second place in No. 1 Singles, again behind Holland Hall.

In No. 2 Singles, Kenzie Hardesty secured a fourth-place finish.

The No. 2 Doubles team of Hollie Mitchell and Rylee Tobin finished second, rounding out an impressive team effort.

Guthrie will now prepare for the state tournament, which will take place this Friday and Saturday, once again at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
