GJHS girls’ team takes Carl Albert Tournament

The Guthrie Junior High tennis teams hit the courts last week and brought home medals from three tournaments.

The girls squad took the overall runner-up at the Westmoore tournament and won the championship at the Carl Albert Tournament.

Contributing to wins at Carl Albert were Jillian Chappell and Brianna Berryman winning second in No. 1 doubles, Kassidy Coffman and Madison Mize won first at No. 2 doubles, Trista LeGrande and Molly Swartzbaugh took third at No. 3 doubles, while Sydney Little and Makaya Coker won first at No. 4 doubles.

The boy’s team of Aaron Hartley and Jacob Ventris took 4th at No. 1 doubles, Joe Kuruvilla and Tanner Mullen/Brandon Larmarche placed 4th at No. 2 doubles.

Results from the Westmoore Tournament: (girls) Jillian Chappell #1 Singles won 2nd, Brianna Berryman #2 Singles won 2nd, Koffman and Mize #1 Doubles won 2nd all 3 falling to Duncan in the finals. #2 Doubles Legrande and Little won 3rd. (boys) Aaron Hartley 3rd at #1 singles, Jaden Weatherford 4th at # 2 singles.

Lawton Mac Tourney Results: Boys #1 doubles Aaron Hartley and Jacob Ventris won 2nd at #1doubles, Joe Kuruvilla and Jaden Weatherford placed 5th at 2Doubles, Trevor Welch and Brandon Larmarche won 2nd at #3 Doubles, Brendon Hannah and Hunter Swartzbaugh placed 4th at #4 doubles, and Harrison Thomas and Tanner Mullens placed 5th in #4 doubles. Girls results at Lawton Mac: Chappell and Berryman won 1st at #1 Doubles, Coffman and Mize won 2nd at #2 Doubles, Aislyn Ballard and Little earned 4th at #3 doubles, in #4 doubles Makaya Coker and Kiah Thomas placed 3rd while Lindsey Ball and Ballard placed 4th.

GJHS tennis will be back in action the week after spring break with Mustang Tourney on the 27th and our own Guthrie Tourney on the 29th.
