GJHS plays first ever soccer games

Guthrie Junior High School held their first ever soccer games last week in the history of the school. The boys won 8-1, girls tied 0-0 against Del City on March 11. The teams formed after the school board voted to form them earlier this year.

The teams began practices on March 1 and are coached by Jason Alexander along with two assistant coaches (Chris Beach and Kathleen Jensen).

In the first year, the boys program has 26 players while the girls only with 11.

The parents of the program have raised funds (nearly $10,000) for uniforms and equipment to support the teams in the past year and a half.

With the addition of the junior high programs, the soccer program on the high school level should benefit in the years to come.
