With demolition in the background, representatives from Goodwill, Tapp Development and City of Guthrie held a groundbreaking ceremony on S. Division St. Wednesday morning.
With approval of the Guthrie Planning Commission and City Council, the Goodwill center will be located at 501 S. Division, which currently is occupied by the old Carl Jr’s building. The current building, along with two structures immediately to the west will be demolished to allow the Goodwill store to be built in the back of the property (facing Division St.) and a parking lot between the store and Division St.
The new location will be 15,000 square feet for the retail and collection site. Related story: Council approves to rezone properties; business hopeful to construct building
Goodwill Executive Vice President Chris Daniels says they are hopeful to be open in summer 2017, or approximately eight months.
Developer Barry Tapp says the building will be a “snazzy building.”
The new business is expected to employee 20-25 people.
The current Goodwill donation drop off, located at 1624 S. Division, will remain open and will be considered after the opening of the retail store.
