For the third straight season, the Suburban Conference boy’s track championship runs through Guthrie. The Jays will continue to look to keep the “three” streak going when they defend their back-to-back state championships in two weeks.
The Lady Jays had an eighth place finish while the Guthrie freshmen boys finished fourth and the freshmen girls was fifth overall. The conference meets were held at Carl Albert High School on Friday afternoon.
The Jays finished with multiple first place finishes en route to a team score of 182 in the 10 team field. Deer Creek was a distant second with a score of 135.
In the field events, Zac Brown led the way with first place finishes in both the shot put and discus. Brown lifted the shot 46-5 and tossed the discus 147-5.5.
Tim Zupo took top honors in the long jump with a leap of 22.4. Michael Watts was third with a jump of 20-11. Zupo finished third with a 6-0 high jump and Watts was fourth at 5-10.
In the pole vault, Jay Kuruvilla was runner-up with a 9-6 and Shannon Stansbury was fourth at 8-6.
In the team events, the Jays crossed the line in 8.44.9 in the 4 x 800 relay to claim the top spot. Zac Cates, Hunter Sallee, Alex Dorio and Walker Cross led the way. In the 4 x400 relay, Emmanulel Robinson, Dorio, Esau Paez and Zupo ran a 3.41.0 to finish third. The speedsters of Alphonso Wilcots, Devonte McCully, Chad Nash and Robinson took second place in the 4 x 100 in a time of 44.27.
In the 32oo meter run it was Jonathan Ogan leading the way with a 10.48.0. Cates and Walker crossed one-two in the 800 meter with times of 2.06.5 and 2.07.4.
Robinson continued his winning ways in the 110 hurdles with a sprint of 14.19 and had a second place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 22.57 while Wilcots finished fourth two seconds later.
For the Lady Jays it was Susie Unger with the best finish when she crossed the 100 meter run in 12.60 for a second place finish. As a team, Shawnee won the conference title with a dominating score of 196.
Unger along with Erika Guerrero, Kyra Macedo and Alma Robinson finished fourth in the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 53.14.
Guerrero pole vaulted a height of 9-6 for the second best attempt. Ashley Watkins placed fifth at 8-0.
Macedo ran a 56.52 in the 300 meter hurdles and Ellisia Brewer threw the discus at 87-2.
Freshmen have success
Robinson won the 200 meter race with a time of 29.32 and Asia Johnson was not to far behind to place third. Lauren Toney ran a 2.51.49 in the 800 meter to finish third and also ran a 6.31.94 in the 1600 meter for third. Makiala Carey landed a seven-foot leap in the pole vault.
For the freshmen boys, they placed fourth with a team score of 64 as Deer Creek took first with 152 points.
In the 4 x 100 team relay Adrian Smith, Calvin Parker, Landon Solorio and Michael Anderson finished second.
In individual runs, Anderson posted a 25.29 in the 200 meter, Sean Harvery ran a 2.24.2 in the 800 meter, Brandon Greenlee ran 5.19.1 in the 1600 meter, and in the 300 meter Khalil Moore was third with a time of 49.28 and Solorio finished fifth.
In the field events, Solorio was second in the high jump at 5-6, Parker was second in the long jump at 19-7.5 and Solorio finished behind him at 19-6.5, in the shot put it was Blake Finley with a fourth place finish with a toss of 41-3 and Peyton Haynes had a best toss of 38-2, and finally in the discus it was Finley with a throw of 105-11.
