At least one more day of classroom instruction will not be held for the Guthrie school district as teachers continue to hold out for education funding.
Guthrie Public Schools announced they will not hold classes on Monday, April 9.
Classes were cancelled all five days last week.

“This closure is needed due to the number of teachers indicating they will be absent far exceeding the number of substitute teachers available,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said.
The district says they will consider the ability to staff teacher absences on a day by day basis.
The April scheduled school board meeting is set for Monday evening beginning at 7 p.m. and a discussion on the walkout is expected to take place.
On Friday, the Oklahoma Senate (42-2) joined the Oklahoma House of Representatives and passed HB1019XX. The internet sales tax bill (sales taxes from online retailers like Amazon) is expected to generate $20 million and fund the $2.9 billion budget education which has already been passed, not add to it.
House Bill 1010 was signed into law which calls for a $447 million tax increase to fund teacher pay raises. The plan gives an average $6,100 pay increase for all teachers. However, teachers said they will continue to walk out because lawmakers didn’t restore education funding.
Parents and guardians are asked during this time away from the classroom to be mindful of the preparation time necessary for students to do their best on the upcoming Oklahoma School Testing Program. The Oklahoma State Department of Education has established practice test sites where students may take a practice test from home to better prepare for the tests.
