Guthrie downs MacArthur to advance to regional championship

Guthrie avenged their season-opening loss to Lawton MacArthur Friday night to begin the playoffs. More importantly, they advance to the regional championship game in Midwest City.

The Bluejays jumped out to a 15-5 lead and never looked back in an impressive 71-46 win over the Highlanders. The game matched the eight-seeded Jays and the nine-seed Highlanders.

In December, Guthrie dropped a 73-65 decision in Lawton.

The Jays outscored MacArthur in each quarter and enjoyed a 14-point lead before the half, 35-21.

MacArthur scored the first bucket of the second half to pull within 11 points, but that would be as close they could come to the Jays.

Guthrie’s offense has now scored 70-plus points in five games this season.

Winners of two straight, the Jays will challenge the top-seed Carl Albert Saturday night.

The Titans down the Jays on Feb. 3 61-48.

Regardless of Saturday’s outcome, both teams will advance to next week’s Area Tournament.
