Guthrie duo to play in NAIA Baseball Championship

Jacob Chappell and Blaze Hastings started playing baseball together in tee-ball, into junior high and high school . Now, they will finish their careers together at the NAIA Baseball Championships.

The 2014 Guthrie High School alums have helped lead the Oklahoma City Stars to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. The Stars are the four seed and play Southeastern (Fla.) at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the first round.

The fifth ranked Starts qualified for the World Series for the second consecutive season.

Chappell and Hastings have played pivotal parts in the Stars obtaining a 50-8 season record.

Hastings, who has had previous stops at Seminole Junior College and Southeast Missouri State, has been stellar on the mound with a 9-1 record, including nine straight wins.

The 6’2, 225 pound senior has an earned run average (ERA) of 4.50.

Chappell, who transferred to the Stars after three years at Oklahoma State University, enters the World Series with a batting average of .306 with 49 hits and 50 runs scored.

The shortstop has added 13 doubles, three triples and four home runs this season.

Chappell and Hastings led the Bluejays to three state tournaments (2012-14) and now the two stars are looking for a college championship.
