Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport to host Summer Flight Camp for kids

The Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport is preparing to host a hands-on summer flight camp aimed at introducing young students to the world of aviation.

The two-day camp, scheduled for May 28 and 29, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and is open to children ages 8 to 12. The program will be held at Meridian Technology Center South Campus in Guthrie and the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport.

The camp is a partnership between the airport, Sooner Flight Academy, and the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics, offering an immersive experience designed to spark interest in aviation careers and science.

Participants will take part in a variety of interactive activities, including learning the anatomy of an airplane, exploring the principles of aerodynamics, and building and launching rockets.

Airport Director Caden Young said the program provides a unique opportunity for youth to experience aviation up close while learning how aircraft operate.

The cost of the camp is $150 per child, which includes admission, a camp t-shirt, and lunch for both days. A limited number of scholarships are available, reducing the cost to $100. Organizers say space is limited to 40 participants and encourage early registration.

Those interested can register online at flygok.com/summerflightcamp. For additional information, the airport can be contacted at 405-282-2312 or by email at cyoung@cityofguthrie.com.
