Guthrie elects mayor, council members

Guthrie voters selected a new mayor and three city council members in the 2013 Municipal General Election held on Tuesday.

With all nine precincts reporting in the mayor’s race, Mark Spradlin defeated current Vice Mayor Trey Ayers, 423 votes to 345. Ayers will remain on the council as a representative for Ward 1.

Turnout was low in all four races, and voters who did venture out into the weather that brought steady rain throughout the day. The temperature hovered above freezing throughout the day and bringing .77 of an inch of rain.

A total of 132 votes were casted by absentee mailing or early voting. The election brought out a grand total of 768 voters in a town of over 10,000 residents.

The closest race of the evening came in Ward 3 where incumbent Gaylord Z. Thomas edged out Linda Craddock by nine votes (99-91).

John Wood, who currently represents Ward One, easily won his race over challenger Matthis Hathorne 252 to 52.

Jeff Taylor, who has served on the local school and hospital boards, won the Ward 2 seat with a 174-98 nod over  Brian Bothroyd.

All results are unofficial and will be made official on Friday by the Logan County Election Board.

  1. Those of you who were unethical, and you know who you are, weren’t even running for office. I really hope you get yours.

    I am really glad my vote counted for the new mayor. Now if he can only get some of the city council to work with him Guthrie may have a chance.

    This running on I was born here, really doesn’t cut it. So was I.
