Guthrie FFA brings home state honors, Star Award at Oklahoma Convention

The Guthrie High School FFA Chapter came away with plenty to celebrate from the 100th Oklahoma State FFA Convention.

Guthrie had seven State Degree recipients, including Zach Allen, Lexy Beckham, Ashlyn Boggess, Ridge Garrett, Madison Grindle, and Michelle Mendoza.

Allen also won the State Star in Agribusiness. Allen owns and operates A-Z Lawn Care. The State Star in Agribusiness award recognizes the most outstanding business-based Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program among all State FFA Degree recipients each year. The State Star winner earns a nearly $30,000 prize, which can be used for further education or as a grant to put toward their business.

Guthrie had three students finish as State Champions in their proficiency categories and one finish as runner-up. Allen won in the Diversified Horticulture Entrepreneur/Placement division. Garrett won in the Swine Production Entrepreneur division. Kynseth Zubrod won the Equine Science Entrepreneur division. Britton Drake finished as the runner-up in the Outdoor Recreation Entrepreneur/Placement division.

Guthrie’s Colton Stevens and Piper Gann both received scholarships to attend the Washington Leadership Conference in the nation’s capital in June.
