Guthrie High School secures multiple championships at FCCLA State

Guthrie High School is proud to announce the remarkable achievements of four of its students at the recent FCCLA State STAR Events. FCCLA, or Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, is an organization that empowers young people to become leaders in their families, careers, and communities through various programs and competitions.

Among the standout performers, Alexandra Wilkins secured the state runner-up position in fashion design level three, marking her third consecutive year in the top two ranks. Freshmen Demarcus Officer and Angel Allen claimed the state championship in Food Innovations Level 2 with their creation, “Chickitos,” while senior Katelyn Hanthorn clinched the state champion title in Food Innovations Level 3 with her inventive snack—a pita filled with chocolate hummus and bananas.

These students have earned the honor of representing Guthrie High School and the community at the national level in Seattle, Washington, this summer. As they prepare for this prestigious event, they are actively seeking sponsorships to help cover the costs associated with attending nationals.

Guthrie High School’s FCCLA chapter was recognized as a Gold Chapter of Excellence. The purpose of the Chapter of Excellence is to recognize FCCLA chapters that have excelled in the five components of FCCLA: membership, adviser, leadership, meetings, and projects. These chapters have well-rounded programs and are active on the local, district, state, and national levels.

FCCLA’s STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which students showcase their skills and knowledge in various areas, including culinary arts, fashion design, and community service. These events provide students with opportunities to develop leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills while competing against their peers from across the state and nation.

Guthrie High School extends its congratulations to Alexandra, Demarcus, Angel, and Katelyn on their outstanding achievements and encourages individuals and businesses to consider sponsoring these exceptional students as they represent their school and community on the national stage.
