Guthrie officially the city of ‘89er Celebration; Governor signs proclamation

Thousands of people will again make Guthrie their destination for the upcoming ‘89er celebration. On Monday, Governor Mary Fallin named Guthrie as the official home for the ‘89er Celebration.

Inside the State Capitol’s Blue Room, City of Guthrie staff and council members, Guthrie Chamber of Commerce, 89er Queen and Princess and local State Representatives join the governor for the signing of the proclamation.

On hand for the governor’s signature, included Mayor Steve Gentling, City Manager Leroy Alsup, Fire Chief Eric Harlow, Police Chief Don Sweger, Councilman John Wood, Councilman Jeff Taylor, Chamber CEO Tracy Zserdin, State Senator AJ Griffin and Representative John Pfeiffer.

The 88th annual celebration is set for April 18-23. Once again, highlighting the week will be 89er Parade throughout downtown Guthrie on Saturday, April 22.
