Guthrie Public Schools responds to two separate threats involving junior high students

Guthrie Public Schools officials say two separate, unrelated threats involving Guthrie Junior High students were investigated Wednesday, prompting an increased police presence on campus Thursday.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, the district confirmed it received reports of two incidents on Wednesday, October 7.

The first incident involved a rumor that a student had a gun on campus. District officials emphasized that no firearm was ever on school grounds.

“At no time was there a gun on campus,” the district stated.

According to the release, the student involved in the first incident is no longer on campus and is being disciplined in accordance with the district’s student discipline policy.

The second incident involved a separate threat made by another student. School officials said the two incidents were unrelated.

The student involved in the second incident is also facing disciplinary action under district policy.

The district said its lead School Resource Officer immediately investigated both incidents with the full support of the Guthrie Police Department.

Additional police officers were stationed on campus Thursday to provide reassurance to students, staff and families.

School administrators said they will continue cooperating with any law enforcement investigation. Questions concerning potential law enforcement action are being referred to the Guthrie Police Department.

District officials noted that federal and state student privacy laws prevent the release of additional information about the students or incidents.

“Student safety will always be our highest priority at Guthrie Public Schools,” the district stated.
