Guthrie run-rules NWC on Senior Night

On Senior Night, the Guthrie Lady Jays softball team erased a five-game losing streak and more importantly picked up a district win.

The Lady Jays erupted for 11 runs in the second inning to separate themselves from Northwest Classen (NWC) in a 14-1 three inning run-rule decision. Four Lady Jays were honored in their final home game.

Guthrie improves to 16-14 overall and 7-6 in the district to remain in fourth place behind Carl Albert, Deer Creek and El Reno.

NWC took an early 1-0 lead in their first at bat, but saw the Lady Jays score 14 unanswered runs.

In the home half of the first inning, senior Hannah Dean got everything going with a double over the centerfielder’s head. She was brought in quickly with a RBI single to tie the game.

Guthrie captured the lead for good with a sacrifice fly and groundball to take a 3-1 lead after an inning of play.

In the 11-run marathon, Guthrie picked up 9 hits to seal the deal.

Huffer, a freshmen shortstop, delivered a two RBI single in the frame to finish the day with three runs driven in. Sophomores Trenda LeGrande and Karrah Dean also added two-RBI singles in the inning.

Hannah Dean, Sydney Little, Izzy Golden and Kori Staley were honored following the game.

Guthrie travels to Deer Creek on Tuesday and Stillwater on Thursday to conclude the regular season. Regionals are set to begin next week.
