Guthrie Softball dominates Lawton Mac, extends win streak to six; Jays to play four games at HOF Stadium

The Lady Jays softball team opened district play in dominating fashion, securing two decisive victories against Lawton MacArthur on the road. In game one, the Jays cruised to a 10-0 win, followed by a commanding 13-1 victory in game two.

These wins extend Guthrie’s win streak to six, improving their overall record to 7-3 and their district record to 2-0. Guthrie is hitting their stride at a crucial time as they prepare for a challenging weekend ahead.

Guthrie returns to action on Friday with a doubleheader at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, facing off against Class 6A Moore at 3 p.m. and Class 4A Plainview at 5 p.m. The competition continues on Saturday with matchups against 6A Edmond North and 4A Bethany, coached by former Guthrie head coach Booker Blakley.

Guthrie 10, Lawton Mac 0

Guthrie got on the board in the first inning with an Ava Hebensperger single. A single by Ryn McCormick extended the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second inning. Following a Highlander miscue, the lead jumped to 3-0 in the top of the third inning.

Then the runs came quickly.

The Jays scored five runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Codi Hibbs hit a solo inside-the-park home run, Hebensperger singled, scoring one run, Kinley Duehning doubled, scoring one run, and Brylan Shephard homered to center field, scoring two runs.

Shepard now has seven home runs to lead the team.

Savannah Ingle (2-1) earned the win by giving up just two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking none.

In total, Jays cranked out 10 hits in the game led Hebensperger who went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Joining her was Duehning, Hibbs, and McCormick collecting two hits.

Guthrie 13, Lawton Mac 1

Lawton MacArthur got their only run of the two games in the first inning, but the lead only lasted until Guthrie could come to the plate.

The Jays put five runs together in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by a Duehning triple that plated two runs.

The lead quickly increased to 11-1 in the next inning as the Jays used timely hitting and taking advantage of fielding errors.

Hebensperger doubled, scoring two runs, Duehning hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Ingle doubled, scoring one run.

In the third, Hibbs singled, and Haley Gallo laid down a sacrifice bunt, each scoring one run.

Freshmen Holland McLemore (2-2) earned the win by giving up zero hits and one run earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking one.

Gallo and Hebensperger were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs. Shephard added two hits.
