Guthrie softball team invited to Youth Softball Nationals

For the first time a Guthrie little league softball team has been invited to compete in nationals this summer.

The OK Thunder 06 competitive softball team is the first 10-and-under team from Guthrie to play in the national event in Arlington, Texas in July.

“We are quite proud of this. The hard work and dedication to the game we love has finally paid off,” a spokesperson for the team said.

The Youth Softball Nationals is the premiere youth fastpitch softball event in the country. The Nationals is a week-long experience for kids 9 to 15 where teams have the opportunity for great competition, off the field fun and building memories that will last a lifetime. Teams from more than 30 states and four countries attended the Nationals in 2015 and that diversity continues to expand in 2016 as the Nationals welcomes teams from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Kuwait, Mexico, Puerto Rico and more different US states than ever before!

The local team is led by head coach Amber Coffman.

In addition to the invitation, the Oklahoma City Thunder have invited the Guthrie team to come and take in one of their games this season.

Currently the team is holding a fundraising event and giving everyone a chance to win a 50-inch high definition television to help offset entry fees and lodging.

Tickets are just a $10 donation. For additional information visit the team’s website.
