Guthrie students, educators join lawmakers for four-district education roundtable

Guthrie Public Schools students and educators joined representatives from Putnam City, Piedmont and Deer Creek for an education roundtable in Oklahoma City, bringing four districts together for a conversation about the future of public education.

Oklahoma state senators and representatives attended the discussion, including Sen. Chuck Hall and Rep. Collin Duel, who represent Guthrie.

Guthrie’s delegation included Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson, Assistant Superintendent Carmen Walters, Guthrie High School Principal Dusty Throckmorton, high school history teacher Brayden Stone, and seniors Colten Stevens and Taylor Schroder.

Stevens also represented Guthrie High School on the student panel, sharing perspectives on the challenges, opportunities, and experiences shaping education today.

The roundtable provided an opportunity for lawmakers to hear directly from school administrators, classroom teachers and students across the four districts.

According to Guthrie Public Schools, the discussions focused on the future of public education and the importance of including those who work and learn in schools in conversations about its direction.

“When students and teachers have a seat at the table, their voices help shape a stronger future for education!” the district stated.
