To Kill a Mockingbird, an adaptation of Harper Lee’s American classic, will play the Pollard Theatre Company’s Stage February 22nd – March 16th. Tickets are on sale now, by calling 405.282.2800 or www.thepollard.org.

Pollard TheaterTold through eyes of nine-year old Scout, To Kill a Mockingbird centers around the story of Atticus Finch, an attorney in the segregated South of the 1930s, who courageously defends a black man accused of rape. Directed by W. Jerome Stevenson and featuring a host of indelible characters and gripping suspense, To Kill a Mockingbird examines the loss of innocence and the acts of extraordinary personal courage that can shape our world in a time of fear.

Director W. Jerome Stevenson has a great affinity for the story and believes the show will be one of the most important of the Pollard’s 26 year history. “One of the best-loved stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has earned the Pulitzer Prize, been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than thirty million copies worldwide, as well as spawned an enormously popular movie. Most recently, librarians across the country gave the book the highest of honors by voting it the best novel of the twentieth century. Mockingbird is one of those stories that has the ability to reach across dividing lines (race, gender, generations, etc.) to connect people to one another. I believe audiences are going to be touched by this story in a lasting way and I can’t wait for them to experience it.”

The cast of To Kill a Mockingbird includes Pollard Theatre Company veteran actors James A. Hughes (A Man for All Season, The Elephant Man) as Atticus Finch, Lane Fields (Godspell, RENT) as Heck Tate, James Ong (Drood, A Territorial Christmas Carol) as Judge Taylor and Lance Reese (Big River, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) as Nathan Radley/Mr. Gilmer.
