Guthrie sophomore Conner Howard competed with several other Oklahoma wrestlers in the USA Wrestling National Dual Team Championship earlier this month in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Conner Howard competed at the recent National Duals in Daytona Beach.

The Oklahoman’s, who are 17, 16 and 15-year-olds, returned home with the third place medal after losing to the eventual champions from Illinois. New Jersey finished runner-up after escaping from team Oklahoma with a one point win.

In the third place match against Michigan, the dual came down to the 189 pound match that featured Howard and a national champion Michigan wrestler, who not only registered in at 6’4 and 285 pounds, but was undefeated in his previous matches.

The much smaller Howard, who had previously lost three matches the previous day, was up for the David vs Goliath challenge. In fact, Howard not only stepped out and predicted a win, but a pin to give his team the third place overall finish. Less than a minute into the match, Howard stood up to his words with the fall.

Moments after the deciding win, Howard came to the bench area where he found his dad and team leader (Jay Howard) to say “Happy Father’s Day.”

Conner Howard is the son of Jay and Holly Howard.
