The Guthrie Bluejays return to Jelsma Stadium Friday night, looking to build on their first victory of the season when they host the Blanchard Lions for Homecoming.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the GNP TV pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Guthrie enters the matchup with a 1-2 record after putting together its best performance of the young season last week in a 28-0 road victory over Bethany.
The win was a welcome response for head coach Kelly Beeby and the Bluejays after opening the season with losses to Tuttle and Elgin.
Guthrie began the year with a 42-7 loss at Tuttle before falling 38-10 to Elgin in the home opener. The Bluejays then went on the road and shut out Bethany to get into the win column.
Now, Guthrie will attempt to carry that momentum into its final game before district play begins.
Blanchard makes the trip to Guthrie looking for its first victory of the season. The Lions enter Friday night at 0-2 following losses to Clinton and Newcastle.
The matchup will also serve as Guthrie’s Homecoming game, adding to a busy Friday night at historic Jelsma Stadium.
Beyond the Homecoming festivities, the game provides Guthrie with one final opportunity to continue building momentum before the schedule takes a significant turn.
Following Friday’s game, the Bluejays will open district play Sept. 25 on the road against perennial Class 5A power Carl Albert. Guthrie will then return home to face Midwest City on Oct. 2.
For the Bluejays, Friday provides an opportunity to even their overall record at 2-2 and enter district play on a two-game winning streak.
Fans unable to make it to Jelsma Stadium can watch the game live on GNP TV.
The broadcast begins with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m., followed by kickoff between Guthrie and Blanchard at 7 p.m.
