Jog-A-Thon brings in over $8k for water bottle fillers

Guthrie Upper Elementary Students participated in a Jog-A-Thon the first week of November and since that time have been collecting donations for all the laps they ran. Friday morning students learned that together they raised $8,134.

The funds are going to be used to purchase water bottle fillers for the 5th and 6th grade wings. The original goal was $3,700 and since the students more than accomplished that total, the school will get to add another water bottle filler outside the gym.

The Jog-A-Thon began Nov. 7 and 8 with students running laps in the gym. The 6th graders were able to run as long as they could, while 5th grade was able to run during their allotted gym time. Students had sponsors with per lap donations or flat donations.

The top fundraisers for 6th grade are Kallon Cyphers ($2,440), Zach Allen ($1,151), Kellen Hirzel ($217), Yogi Creed ($200) and Jace Rainwater ($181).

The top fundraisers for 5th grade are Lance Evans ($220), Macie Girard ($142), Andrew Willoughby ($126), Emmie McPeek ($105), Jack Todd, Falon Zachary, LilyAnne Crick (each raising $100).

Students running the most laps for 6th grade are Clayton Carpenter (900 laps), Zach Allen (841), Corbin Madison (801), Reid Watson (800) and Kellen Hirzel (711). Top lap runners for 5th grade are Maddie Aitken (162 laps), Steve Roberts (162), Savannah Ingle (151), Ayden Potter (151) and Valerie Escobar (146).

All students who participated in the Jog-A-Thon and turned in money will receive a Bluejay water when they return from Thanksgiving Break.
