Junior High football begins fall practices

The seventh and eighth grade Guthrie football teams kicked their fall practices off on Wednesday morning under perfect weather conditions at Faver school.

This season 23 seventh graders and 30 eighth graders are set to take on the 2015 season.

On day one of practices, the Jays worked on punting, passing and kicking to go along with conditioning.

A year ago the eighth grade team finished a respectable 5-2, but with Guthrie Bluejay expectations they will look to improve. Meanwhile, the seventh graders have played together over the last few years in little league football and will look to adjust in the junior high ranks.

The season will be a challenge, particularly in the middle of the year with four consecutive games on the road at Ponca City, Chickasha, Piedmont and Noble.

The Bluejays will play in Jelsma Stadium three times this season, including the first and last game.

The junior high program will be led by coaches Casey Porter, Seth Morgan, Matt Perring, Terry Bennett, Jonathan Washington and Colby Wagoner.

The Jays will scrimmage in Stillwater on Aug. 20 and will host Kingfisher on Aug. 28.

The regular season opening game will be against Sept. 3 against El Reno.
