Junior High golf takes on talented field in windy conditions

The Guthrie Junior High Boy’s Golf Squad traveled to Lake Hefner Golf Course on Thursday to participate in the 21-team Deer Creek Invitational.  The tournament was held on the North Course which plays primarily right along the banks of Lake Hefner and the event featured a steady 25 mph north wind, which caused most participants to start the day dressed in layers.

After the dust settled and sweatshirts gave way to short-sleeves, the Junior Jays shot a 329 to come in second place overall just being edged out by a  perennially-strong Edmond Sequoyah squad who finished at 326.

Individually, 105 participants battled for 15 medals.  Jays talented eighth grader Luke Morgan fired a 2-over par 74 to finish third.  Meanwhile, fellow eighth grader Bo Robbins shot a steady 81 to grab the tenth place medal.

Rounding out the scoring for the Jays were eighth grader Luke Roach with an 87, seventh grader Brady Hirzel with an 87 and seventh Grader Jaxon Hirzel with a 97.

The Junior High team will now take an extended break from team competition, as their next event will be the conference tournament on April 19.
