Junior High teachers remembered in ceremony

The family of Jennifer Briggs and Heather Wilson, along with the administration of Guthrie Public Schools, students and community members, gathered on the front steps of the school building Tuesday to remember the two school teachers, who were tragically killed in a vehicle accident one year to the day as they carpooled to school.

In a somber ceremony with blue skies and the sun shining bright, a moment of silence was held and soon after balloons were released into the sky.

Sgt. Anthony Gibbs with the Guthrie Police Department read from a prepared statement and announced a new initiative called Learn to Love in honor of Jennifer and Heather. Learn to Love will allow children to be touched in a positive way by buying books for the library, purchasing items needed for the classrooms and helping students and families in need.

Learn to Love has collected over $2,000 and Jennifer Brigg’s family announced that they would be donating $1,000 on their behalf.
