The Guthrie Junior High academic team participated in regionals over the weekend in Edmond. The next step for the whiz kids will be the state tournament.
The Junior High team competed at Edmond Sequoyah on Saturday in part of the Oklahoma Junior Academic Bowl Association.
The team of Hudson Harden, Bo Robbins, Matthew Lingerfelt, Joshua Bauchanan, Brock Parker, Osmund Lu, Robert Paddack and Hayden Hirzel represented Guthrie.
The sponsor of the team is Kathy Ice, who is taking the year off from teaching at the junior high.
The academic bowl is a question-and-answer competition between two teams of four players each. A game consists of four quarters: two 20-question tossup quarters and two 10-question 60-second quarters.
The academic state tournament is set for April.
