Four witnesses told a police officer they saw a man kick a kitten up in the air. Now, that man is facing a felony charge of cruelty to animals.

handcuffsOn Dec. 9, Guthrie police officers responded to Pine and Harrison in reference to alleged animal cruelty just before 3 p.m.

Two witnesses say they saw a man wearing a black hoody kick a small kitten into the air.

The first witness says, Daniel Alan Carpenter, 50, kicked the kitten six to eight feet into the air and began arguing with a woman in a wheelchair.

The second witness says Carpenter kicked the kitten eight to 9 feet into the air, the cat hit the ground and then took off running.

The woman in the wheelchair and Carpenter relative also tell officers they witnessed the kick. Both say the kitten hit a chain link fence and limped off under a residence.

In the probable cause report, Carpenter told the officer “the kitten is fine. I didn’t hurt the kitten, see he’s purring.”

Animal Control was called to the home and ruled the kitten did not appear to be injured. The kitten and what appeared to be three “sickly” puppies were taken from the home.

Carpenter was taken into custody and has posted a $5,000 bond. He’s expected back in the Logan County courtroom on Jan. 22.
