For the third year in a row the Class 5A girls state tournament will host the Guthrie Lady Jays golf team.
Head coach Mike Longstreth’s Lady Jays finished third overall in the regional held at Crimson Creek Golf Course, in El Reno, to qualify for next weeks state tournament to be held at Silverhorn Golf Course, in Oklahoma City.
Duncan came away with top regional honors followed by Altus. Altus shot a team 343 and Duncan a 357.
Sophomore McCandren Lewis defeated the entire field to win the individual honor by shooting a 77. In the process, Lewis defeated the Class 5A returning state champion, Chelsea MCuistion, from Altus.
Team members include Lewis, Kacey Acker, Jasmine Linville, Kelsey Walker and Linzi Thomas.
Lewis splashed onto the scene a season ago and helped aid the Lady Jays back to state for the first time in many seasons. Last season at state, Lewis had the low score for the Lady Jays with scores of 79 and 84. Guthrie finished seventh with Duncan winning the 5A title.
This years tournament will be held May 5th and 6th. The Lady Jays will tee of at 10:08. Guthrie will be the No. 4 seed.
Joining Guthrie in the field will be Duncan, Coweta, El Reno, Pryor, Tahlequah, McAlester, Deer Creek, Claremore, Altus, Bishop Kelley, and Carl Albert.
